Chimney Rock NC is 2,280 feet above Hickory Nut Gorge.

Within Chimney Rock Park, is Hickory Nut Falls at 404 ft, this waterfall is the highest in eastern America. Some scenes from the 1992 movie, The Last of the Mohicans, were filmed at Chimney Rock Park. There are beautiful views from atop Chimney Rock covers about 75 miles, from nearby Lake Lure to Kings Mountain on a clear day.

Hiking trails - there is a hike to the Hickory Nut Falls, moon shiners cave, devil's head, Opera Box, Inspiration point. These points also offer breathtaking views.

Chimney Rock NC is located 25 miles southeast of Asheville via 74, the road is very winding going up Hickory Nut Gorge. Do not exceed speed limit. You can see the road below as the road going up the mountain is shaped like an S.

Lake Lure is a few minutes drive from Chimney Rock. Lake Lure has a nice clean maintained beach that offers paddle boats and tubes for rent. Close to the beach, across the road is the bottomless pools.

Lake Lure is a small town. The area offers beautiful mountain views against the background of mountains particularly in the fall when the leaves are changing.

I have found that during the summer, if you go during the week, the public beach is less crowded.
