The North Carolina mountains offers much to do outdoors. Drive the Blue Ridge Parkway for scenic views. Go whitewater rafting, hiking the Appalachian trail or elsewhere, ski resorts, hot mineral springs, mountain biking, horseback riding, national forests to explore. You can also attend festivals. Visit museums, historic sites and art galleries. Go antique hunting. Shop at boutiques or shopping malls. Attend the theatre. With so many things to see and do, you can spend a month or more exploring.

Beech Mountain - highest ski resort in eastern USA, 5506 feet above sea level. Go Alpine skiing, ice skating, snowboarding and snow tubing.

Black Mountain - See Swannanoa Valley Museum and explore history of the valley from the stone age.

Blowing Rock - observation tower, gardens, arts center, parks, museums and Tweetsie Railroad.

Boone - Ski resorts, gardens, gem mine, museum and Horn in the West outdoor drama play.

Brevard - historic district, museums, waterfalls, wildlife education center with aquariums and fish hatchery, Silvermont Mansion built 1902 and Sliding Rock.
