The Cape Fear Coast includes these cities and beaches: Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach, Southport,  Kure Beach, Carolina Beach, Bald Head Island, Top Sail Island, Surf City and Masonboro Island.

Masonboro Island is a  barrier island located between Carolina Beach and Wrightsville Beach located in New Hanover County. It is a nesting habitat for loggerhead turtles.

Harkers Island local attraction: Core Sound Waterfowl museum with exhibits of handcarved decoy ducks

North Carolina Aquariums has 3 Locations.

NC Aquariums

  1. Roanoke island near Manteo and Outer Banks
  2. Pine Knolls Shores - west of Atlantic Beach
  3. Fort Fisher - 20 miles south of Wilmington on Pleasure Island

 The Aquariums feature Sharks, Stingrays, sea turtles, Fish, Moray eels, otters and more marine animals with hands on exhibits. It is open year round - 9-5 closed Christmas, New Years day and Thanksgiving.

Fort Fisher is a confederate fort that protected the port of Wilmington, known as the Gibraltar of the South. It is a NC state historic site with a visitors center. The fort has exhibits of artifacts from sunken blockade runners ships

Port O Plymouth Civil War Museum  is located in Plymouth NC with artifacts from Civil War including a Confederate Ram from the Albemarle

Swan Quarter is located in Hyde county, the town of Swan quarter is known for the church moved by the hand of God, Providence church during a hurricane the church floated to its current location.

8 NC Lighthouses

Bodie Island Lighthouse is located north of Hatteras Island at Oregon Inlet. The lighthouse is 150 ft high. It was built 1871 and currently on the Cape Hateras National Seashore. There is a museum, lighthouse keepers house, visitors center.

Cape Lookout Lighthouse was Built in 1859. the lighthouse is located on the Core Banks, east of Beaufort. It is 163 ft high.

Oak Island Lighthouse is located on Oak Island, the lighthouse is on the lower southeastern NC coast. It is 169 feet tall and is the brightest lighthouse in US built in 1950 s

Ocracoke Lighthouse is located on  Ocacoke Island, the lighthouse was built in 1823

Price Creek Lighthouse   built in 1848 near Southport NC. You have to see from distance as there are no tours
